Comparison of the air kerma standards for 137 Cs and 60 Co gamma - ray beams between the IAEA and the NIST

چکیده
A comparison of the air kerma standards for Cs and Co gamma ray beams was performed between the NIST and the IAEA. Two reference class ionization chambers owned by the IAEA were used as part of this comparison and were calibrated at each facility. The calibration coefficients, NK, were determined for both chambers and in both gamma-ray beams. The measurements were performed at the IAEA and NIST facilities starting in the fall of 2009 and were completed in 2010. The comparison ratio of the calibration coefficients for each chamber, NK,IAEA / NK,NIST, between the IAEA and NIST were 0.999 and 0.997 for the Cs and Co gamma ray beams respectively. The relative standard uncertainty for each of these ratios is 0.5 %.

Changes in the U.S. Primary Standards for the Air Kerma From Gamma-Ray Beams
Monte Carlo photon-electron transport calculations have been done to derive new wall corrections for the six NBS-NIST standard graphite-wall, air-ionization cavity chambers that serve as the U.S. national primary standard for air kerma (and exposure) for gamma rays from (60)Co, (137)Cs, and (192)Ir sources. The data developed for and from these calculations have also been used to refine a numbe...

Air kerma calibration coefficients for a reference class ionization chamber from narrow x-ray spectra and cesium 137 gamma-ray beams were compared between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). A NIST reference-class transfer ionization chamber was calibrated by each laboratory in terms of the quantity air kerma in four x-ray referenc...

Data required for the determination of the absolute air kerma rate for (60)Co and (137)Cs gamma-rays using spherical cavity chambers were calculated using the EGS4 Monte Carlo system. Mass energy-absorption coefficient ratio and the stopping power ratio were calculated for a 10 cm(3) primary standard graphite-walled ionization chamber from the unfolded energy pulse height distributions of (60)C...

Various radiation detectors including electronic personal emergency radiation detectors (PERDs), radiochromic film cards and thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) were used to validate a subset of the radiological test requirements listed in the American National Standards Institute/The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (ANSI/IEEE) N42.49 standard. The subset of tests included the ...

The air-kerma standards used for the measurement of medium-energy x rays were compared at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and at the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM). The comparison involved a series of measurements at the BIPM and the NIST using the air-kerma standards and two NIST reference-class transfer ionization standards. Reference beam qualities...
